World Class Arts self-mailing brochure
Case:
The client had a need for a logo and brochure design to promote a new nonprofit. Both needed to be done within two weeks. Some of the images provided were low resolution (web quality) or small in dimension. Due to time and budget restrictions, a creative solution was necessary to still make use of these images without exposing their flaws.

Solution: Instead of the typical 11x8.5 trifold, this brochure is 16.75x10.75 with a gatefold. The gatefold, a creative choice for this piece, was the client's idea. She had already envisioned the logo running across the two panels (right). When designing for this kind of fold, you have to be careful, especially because the printer has to trim the "short" panels—those that will fold in. Words can be tricky to run across "edges" like this, but due to skill and good communication with the printer, the logo on the fold looks perfect. The other text on these pages was run in columns as opposed to horizontally across the panels to allow for easy reading and clarity.

The cover design echoes the circular shape of the logo and is representative of a stage. Although there are only two colors used throughout, the colors were mixed to give depth to the photos.

To overcompensate for some of the low-resolution and smaller images, we adjusted them as much as possible. Because several of these images could not be made too large, additional design elements (various dingbats and swooshes) were incorporated to enhance the design and content (the arts) by providing movement.

The back panel (click here to see) accommodates a mail panel to complete the piece.
