Background

The American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) is a nonprofit association whose members are involved in the science, practice and advancement of gastroenterology.

Problem

The Gut Check website, one of the AGA’s subsites, needed to educate consumers (as opposed to their usual doctor-member audience) about pain medication safety. The new design needed to use the existing Gut Check logo and medicine bottle image.

Solution

To really educate and engage this audience about a serious topic, we wanted to make the design a bit playful and friendly—as opposed to technical.

As part of the design and development, we adhered to the AGA colors for recognition of their brand. We also created visual, informative icons to help guide the reader.

We added randomly rotating facts in the footer that change upon reloading the page or coming to the website on a subsequent visit.

We created a show-and-hide functionality for the FAQs so that visitors can see all questions at a glance and click on the ones they want to read the answers to.

Finally, we advised that the copy be made more conversational and less medical jargon.
